The hairdressing and beauty industries are booming right now, and there's no better place to develop your hairdressing, make-up, beauty and skincare skills than Newcastle College. You will learn from experts in our professional salons and treatment rooms, which are housed in our multi-million pound Lifestyle Academy.
It's our mission to stay at the cutting-edge of practice. We work with industry leaders including Andrew Barton, the Great British Barber Bash team, and Lush Cosmetics to ensure that you develop the latest techniques and skills in the industry. Whether you're a complete beginner looking for a full-time course, want to upskill on a part-time course, or want to embark on a degree, we have the course for you. Many of our alumni have gone on to set up their own salons and clinics, with others working as stylists and make-up artists in TV, theatre and fashion, including companies like Therapie Clinic, Bare Minerals, Benefit and Steiner Cruises.

Fay Ingles
Level 3 Make Up Artistry"I was really quite shy when I started at Newcastle College, but thanks to my time here I’ve definitely come out of my shell a lot! I can especially feel the benefits on my placement when I’m working in the salon. I’ve become so capable with the support from my tutors and friends."
Nikki Irvine
Beauty Level 3, Nail Technology, Artificial Nails and Teaching"I studied my BTEC at Newcastle College when I was 16 and I loved it, so every time I’ve wanted to delve deeper into any specific area of beauty therapy, or even when I wanted to do a teaching course so that I could teach beauty myself, Newcastle College has been my go-to for courses."
Sophie Roxburgh
Level 2 Hairdressing"My favourite thing about the course is learning new skills and getting the opportunity to enter competitions. I have learnt so many extra skills that I wouldn’t necessarily have learnt if I hadn’t been offered the chance to enter these competitions."
Laila Batcheldor
Level 2 Hairdressing Apprentice"My apprenticeship is giving me more experience of working on the salon floor. I feel like I’m well on my way to becoming a fully qualified hairdresser who is fully confident in all aspects of hair."
Esraa Kelezli
Level 2 Hairdressing"Before coming to Newcastle College, if I did someone's hair I never really pushed myself or seriously attempted more challenging hair techniques, but now I'm able to learn and practice on real people, it's so much better! I feel like I can do anything, but I love the fact I can uplift people through my work so they can feel really good about themselves."
Ana Dias
Level 3 Hairdressing"My ESOL course was a fantastic experience. It helped me improve my English and feel more confident communicating in everyday life. The friendly environment and encouraging teachers made me want to continue studying here and take the next step toward a professional qualification."
Tara Powell
FdA Advanced Techniques in Media and Semi-Permanent Make-Up"I was like 'I'm fifty can I really do a foundation degree?' And here I am two years later, smashing it and next year I'm doing a bachelors degree. Honestly, it's not just a degree I'm getting. It's the people I've met, it's the guest speakers and it's the workshops. It's been loads of fun. We all love it and the tutors are fab and really supportive."
